New Prespective

As I sat on the couch all week I ended up watching SO many different things on TV. By the way, I had really good timing on getting our new flat screen which is a beauty (thanks wifey!) Obviously there is only so much of what I like on tv during the dreaded afternoon so I was forced into channel surfing and landing on things in which I thought had no chance of my liking, or so I thought.

First the college world series. Something I have never enjoyed on tv, in fact I think I'd rather go get a pedicure with my wife. But, I got caught up in the story of Fresno State and ended up watchin the last game of the series. Definitely have to give them props coming out of the WAC (Western Athletic Conference) and winning it all. There are reports that say its not that big of a deal but come on, their RPI was like 89th in the nation...ouch! Good story and was fun to watch.

Now, the second thing that I ended up completely loving was the EuroCup2008. For those who don't know what that is it is the championship of soccer in all of Europe. I think I started watching it in the semifinals where Germany played Turkey and Spain played Russia. We just finished watching Spain beat Germany in the final with our two friends from Switzerland who were both rootin' for Germany as one of them was half German. Wow...definitely entertaining and will be watching it again in 4 years and will be looking forward to the World Championship in 2 years. Soccer was something I never really played and never had any interest in since it wasn't fast paced like basketball or football. To me, it lacked personality. Totally wrong, intense and very fast, injuries left and right with the goalies scrambling at almost every turn...very fun.

All in all, I don't know if I'll be too interested in the CWS again unless there is a good story but you can count on me to see the EuroCup again!

There are no injuries, just a bunch of Euros who flop at the slightest touch.

They act like every injury is life threatening and then they just get up 30 seconds later.

It's like a bunch of Vlade Divacs running around out there.

the NBA is going to give "floping" fines next year...maybe Soccer should think of somthing similar. I'm interested to see what happens with it next year...it will either help tremendously or be the worst thing ever.

Jeff- props on the CWS. It's my favorite sporting event all year. I need you to like it.

Secondly, soccer is awesome. Now you're into it and have to go to a San Jose Earthquakes game with us when we go. You up for it?

Opie- what games are you watching? No injuries? Maybe some countries, that will go un-named do that, but for the most part, their pretty good hits. I'd love to see you get kicked in the shin or a deep "charlie horse" and get right up. It aint happening dude. Give some slack to the "real athletes."

Jeff, I forgot to mention in the last response that I'm glad you're finally watching some real athletes compete at real sports. Tell your brother as well.

Matty, let's not get ahead of ourselves now. I said it was fun and enjoyable...not that it my favorite sport and all others a lame-o...I think we all know the real athletes come from UNR.
